Who’s behind it
The festival is staged by Main Event Entertainment Group, whose CEO Solomon Sharpe is also chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment, and a Portmore native himself. “Masicka is the biggest, baddest thing around town, and at Main Event we will try our best to keep up with him,” Sharpe said. He added that the team has made six or seven site visits and reworked the venue layout several times.
Magnum Tonic Wine is on board through J Wray & Nephew. Dominic Bell, communications manager at J Wray & Nephew, said the festival reflects “over 15 years of hard work” from Masicka: “As a lover of dancehall, this is exactly what the culture needs right now.” Supreme Ventures executive chairman Gary Peart said Caymanas, best known for horse racing, is “going to be the biggest entertainment place in Jamaica”.
Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange was also at the launch and reminded everyone that “Music is entertainment, but it’s also a business.” Ticket details haven’t been shared yet, so watch this space.
