Ayra Starr is officially Platinum in America! Her breakout hit ‘Rush’ has been certified Platinum by the RIAA, making it the first song from the Nigerian singer to reach that mark in the United States.
News of the plaque spread online on 6 November after fan account Album Talks flagged it. Platinum means at least one million units, counting sales and streams together, with 150 on-demand streams equal to one download. If every unit came from streaming, that would mean at least 150 million US streams.
The ‘Rush’ story so far
‘Rush’ came out as a single in 2022 on Mavin Records, the label that has backed Ayra Starr since her early releases, and later landed on the deluxe edition of her debut album 19 & Dangerous. In 2024 it was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards, the first year of the category, which Tyla won with ‘Water’. Her second album, The Year I Turned 21, also arrived in 2024.
Four years after its release, ‘Rush’ now has a US Platinum plaque. Run it back below.
