Clarendon got the full Livewire treatment, and Capleton delivered. The reggae veteran headlined the Appleton Estate Livewire concert at The Wharf Estate on Saturday 31 October, backed by the Ruff Kutt band.
Capleton mixed newer releases and freestyles with crowd favourites ‘Jah Jah City’ and ‘That Day Will Come’. Before him, Jamarii pulled fans closer to the stage with ‘Suppose’ and ‘Mirror Mirror’. “I felt good about my performance. I was actually impressed with myself,” he said afterwards. Deep Jahi brought ‘Greatness’ and ‘God A Work’.
The surprise of the night came from Jahshii, who stepped out for ‘Cream of the Crop’ and ‘Pieces’. Deep Jahi welcomed the link-up: “It’s dancehall, so I was glad to show unity. Unity brings the music far and wide.”
Livewire: what’s next
Promoter Carlton Davy said: “Having major headliners allows us to offer audiences something special at every stop.” The series heads to Pier 1, Montego Bay on 25 November, then to Kingston on 2 January for its second-anniversary event, with Valiant and a live band.
