RAPPER ‘T I’ SAYS “I CAN’T DEFEND EVERYTHING IGGY AZALEA DOES”
While chatting with Billboard about his upcoming album The Dime Trap, T.I. talked about a rapper who used to take up a lot of his time but doesn’t so much anymore:Iggy Azalea.
Tip, who mentored Iggy and recently took a step back from her professionally, had this to say when asked if the last few months have damaged her career.
“I think that’s her decision if she allows it to be damaged,” T.I. tells Billboard. “Her actions will determine how much it will be damaged. The ball is still in her court.”
In a separate interview with Ebro in the Morning on Hot 97, T.I. explained that it was her response to Q-Tip’s hip-hop history lesson that gave him pause. T.I. says he helped barter a truce between Q-Tip and Iggy that was torn down when she dismissed her critics as “patronizing.”
“After it was cool, everything was cool, and then they [Team Iggy] kind of came back and undid what I had just done. I’ma be all the way real: I’m a loyal partner. If I rock with you, I’m gonna rock with you. I’m gonna block the bullets. But when I say go, go.”
He’s not disassociating himself with her entirely, though. “It’s hard to be the new kid and the butt of the jokes,” he told Hot 97. “It came at a time where culturally in this nation — and she’s not from here — we were looking for a source to place some pent-up aggression. Some stuff they [Team Iggy] brought upon themselves. In some cases it kind of was just the easiest place to put some pent-up aggression.” Watch it below.
